Tours
Currently we are offering a choice of 5 premium round trips in Sri Lanka, ranging from 6 to 16 days. Each tour offers you the very best of exciting discoveries, valuable cultural highlights and uncommon extras. All tours are based on the concept of ecological responsible traveling and respect for indigenous culture and nature. We expect you to underwrite to these principles (respect for local traditions, including proper dress code - respect for the natural environment - no littering along the road - no alcohol consumption until the bikes are parked for the night).
You ride in principle on well-paved roads (but expect potholes at times), with some occasional stretches on commonly used unpaved gravel/sand roads, but no off-road tracks.

Driving in Sri Lanka
Perhaps the most noticeable difference between riding in Europe and riding in Sri Lanka (except if you're from the UK or Ireland) is that in Sri Lanka you'll ride on the left side of the road. If you're not familiar with riding on the "wrong" side of the road, we encourage riders to ride with the tour leader, at least for the first few days, until you become accostumed to it. You may ride with the tour leader during the whole trip of course, and often this is the safest option to get used to the often "undisciplined" driving of the locals. Road conditions in Sri Lanka vary from smoothly paved 4 lane main roads to dirt and gravel roads. Most of the time you'll be on undivided hard roads going from smooth to "bumpy" (long years of continuous repairs), but some parts will be considerably better (newly laid much broader roads) and some parts considerably worse (sprinkled with potholes). Most roads have unreliable road edges. The most unreliable factors on the road are a lot of cattle grazing free along the roadsides, and anticipating what other road users are going to do.
Trivial differences are:
- Mirrors are used for cosmetic purposes only, not to look for traffic behind them. If there's a hindrance at the roadside, people move automatically to the middle of the road. So, always look far forward for what is happening on the road.
- From a left junction, people turn onto the main road without looking, and in either way (keeping left when turning left, or keeping right when turning right.
- Buses can stop anywhere to let people on or off: at the left side, at the RIGHT side, or even in the MIDDLE of the road. And if there is a regular bus stop, it's either full of people or not used at all.
- For short distances (a few hundred meters is considered small), many vehicles drive on the RIGHT side of the road.
- Turning right at a junction is often done quite in advance: crossing the road to the other (right side) and driving at that side for hundreds of meters.
- Never count on turning signals. Most people are not using them, and once used don't turn them off. So don't be surprised that a car signalling a left turn, all of a sudden turns to the right at the next junction.
Once you get used to the above guidelines, traffic is surprisingly safe, as long as you remember that 'power gives priority' and as a biker you score pretty low on the power scale, just above stray dogs and pedestrians. Riding low profile is your best safety option.
