About us

Alfonso's Adventures is a family-run company that offers quality motorcycle trips in Sri Lanka. Soon we will be offering trips in India as well. It was founded by Alfons Van Hoof, a Belgian motorcycle enthusiast and free-lance author of local guide books. He also takes care of the GPS routings and the design of clear and accurate navigation maps, custom designed for the tours on offer.

After nearly 20 years of teaching and traveling to most continents, he married Shama Ekanayake in 1996. A few years later (in 2000) the fresh couple settled down in Sri Lanka and started to discover the subcontinent.

Now, they share their experiences with guests from all over the world, a large family tied together by their common passion for motorcycle touring.

Offering exceptional and intimate contact with the local culture, nature and people of Sri Lanka, these tours offer an enriching travel experience unique in its kind. But they also require from you an open mind and respectful attitude towards local customs. Sri Lanka is an enchanting tropical island with a gorgeous climate - probably the best in the world - and a delicious cuisine, rooted into a several millenia old culture and tradition.
But it is also still a developing country, and just recovering from a generation long war. Hence, expect accommodation and facilities in most areas to be seriously below the standard of western countries. To bring you the best opportunities in local taste, sacrifice in comfort must sometimes be made.
